Do You Have a Client Onboarding Process?

You know the feeling. You’re living the dream, running your own business, and doing the work you love. Then you land that brand new client you can’t wait to work with, the one you talked yourself into not getting too excited about, just in case things didn’t work out.

So exciting, right?

But then you freeze, because you’re thinking, “What in the world am I supposed to ask them so that I have all the info I need for our project?”

Particularly when you’re first starting out, it’s very common to feel a bit lost about what to ask to get the project off the ground in an organized way.

Whether you’re a web designer, copywriter, or another kind of service-based creative, the “onboarding process” is key. It sets the tone for the entirety of your new client’s experience.

If you’re not prepared with some key questions, it leads to serious disorganization. As you work, you’ll have to stop what you’re doing and email your new client as the questions and other information you’ll need pop into your head. No one likes those endless back-and-forth email threads!

You don’t want to end up in a situation where your client isn’t satisfied in the end because you weren’t equipped with the right intake questions at the beginning.

MAKE SURE YOU’RE READY TO GO WITH YOUR CLIENT INTAKE QUESTIONNAIRE.

A few key questions can quickly help you understand what your client is really looking for from your work together. My own questionnaires walk my copywriting clients through the information I need from them.

The result is a much more streamlined, effective workflow and a process that’s low-stress and fun!

I use different questionnaires based on the type of deliverable the client hired me to create. I recommend using Typeform to create gorgeous intake forms for free. (The one caveat: your clients won’t be able to save their work and come back to it later, so make sure you warn them!)

Today I’m sharing some of the questions I ask during these early stages. Would any of these work for you in your own onboarding process? Take a look using the links below!
